Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease has since spread worldwide, leading to an ongoing pandemic. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads mainly when an infected person is in close contact with another person. Small droplets and aerosols containing the virus can spread from an infected person's nose and mouth as they breathe, cough, sneeze, sing, or speak. Most common symptoms: fever, dry cough, tiredness
Less common symptoms: aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on the skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes.

Smallpox

The history of smallpox extends into pre-history, with the disease probably emerging in human populations about 10,000 BC. The earliest credible evidence of smallpox is found in the Egyptian mummies of people who died some 3,000 years ago. During the 18th century, the disease killed an estimated 400,000 Europeans each year, including five reigning monarchs, and was responsible for a third of all blindness. During the 20th century, it is estimated that smallpox was responsible for 300–500 million deaths.
